Every household has a need for quality linen and many people aspire to work their own hours and be their own boss. The Ryan family identified those needs and worked toward the goal of bringing the two together. They set about building a Party Plan business (initially in their back yard garage) that provided value for money for the customer and created a marketing mechanism for all participants to share in the financial rewards.
Established in 1985 by the late Peter Ryan with his wife Heather, linen and manchester was chosen as the company's product because it's a commodity that every home needs and is used by everybody, everyday. The company was incorporated in 1986. Since that time, Lorraine Lea Linen has grown to a large team of Consultants and Managers holding linen parties in all states and territories of Australia and since May 2005, in New Zealand. In 2007, we held in excess of 36,500 parties and serviced over 260,000 customers - and are still growing at a phenomenal rate.
Party Plan is based on a simple selling model: get a group of friends together at home and invite your local Lorraine Lea Consultant to show a range of linen and manchester. Not only will the Consultant provide unrivalled customer service rarely seen in retail outlets, but it's a fun, social way to shop and so convenient. Better still, the party Host actually earns free products, along with other monthly discount offers while socialising in their own home.
An important role in the organisation is the aspect of on-going training and development. While very few Lorraine Lea Consultants have had sales experience before joining, they have been able to build strong careers due to the ongoing training and support offered by a team of over 50 staff at the company's Support Centre, as well as the regular personal contact with their local Manager. Monthly meetings with fellow Consultants also provide an opportunity for public recognition of each person's achievements, which strengthens their self-esteem in an environment unlike the one experienced by the average office worker.
Throughout the year, Lorraine Lea Consultants are given the opportunity to further develop their selling and personal skills through the annual conference held in Melbourne and more intimate seminars in their local areas. Seminars, conferences and monthly Unit meetings are a great opportunity to get to know and learn from fellow Consultants while being shown the latest products released into the range.
The company is now headed by Peter's son, Adrian Ryan, and is housed in a multi-million dollar administration and warehouse facility in Scoresby, on the outskirts of Melbourne, Australia.
